Ryan Manning: This hotel is an example of an amazing initial financial investment and no money invested since that time. I went to this hotel in 2018 and the restaurant and craft cocktail menu was amazing. The artisan retail shop above the restaurant sold unique products from around Mexico.I stayed in the hotel a little over a week ago. It was my "upgrade night" from where I was staying previously, to treat myself. Unfortunately, I should have stayed in the cheaper hotel because the experience was much better. The restaurant has completely lost its charm, which should have been obvious when the staff is just sitting at the bar with no guests.The amazing retail shop is closed but I was allowed to walk through what is now called the "library" which houses some of the old artisan pieces (and many broken ones scattered across the floor) with faded price tags on them.The room, also dated and not maintained with corroded showers, honor bar (not labeled as such - had to call to verify), but most of all. This hotel has fake AC controls. The AC is centrally controlled, so if you enjoy sleeping in the heat then this is the hotel for you. I called the staff to the room to check it and found this out first hand.Even if this hotel was $100usd cheaper a night, I would still not recommend staying here. Much better hotels throughout the city. Some of which are $50-60usd a night.

Todd A: Dark, Dismal and False AdvertisingDon't believe the fake reviews by the owners under fake email addresses!This booking was a complete disaster. Immediately upon walking in to silent dark, dank, silent and completely uninhabited lobby, it conjured scenes from the classic horror film, The Shining.Upon reaching my room, I was further shocked. It looked nothing like the photos advertised: Holes in the walls, no lamps, zero art on the walls, wires hanging out of the walls, everything askew, and just enough light to barely see. It further had a foul odor, a non-functioning safe, shaky wifi, and was warm enough to keep you up all night sweating (no A/C).I immediately requested a refund through the booking site, and it almost immediately bounced back with a message from the hotel manager/owner: "sorry, our policy is non-refundable.”The attendant then visited my room asking what was the meaning of my request. I explained the obvious (see above), and her response was along the lines of “Manager says no.” I said fine, I’ll be sure to leave an honest review of my stay here.Five minutes later the attendant knocks on my door again. “My manager says you must leave the hotel in ten minutes.” I, while flabbergasted, replied that was fine, as long as I was getting a refund. After all, the place was awful and leaving sounded like a great idea.Another five minutes, and now the MANAGER (name on file and filed in subsequent PROFECO claim) knocks on the door DEMANDING (screeching) that I depart. Again, I said that would be fine with a refund. “Absolutely not!!!” He shrilled. “Then I’m not leaving. You have my money.”I told this man I would be filing a claim with PROFECO (the Mexican equivalent of the BBB but with a powerful bite) because of his behavior and the customer service of the hotel. Door shut in his face.Another five minutes, and another knock on the door: “You must leave now or we are calling the police to remove you!”WHAT??I informed him that I knew my rights, that I am a resident of Mexico, and he needed to leave me alone. A tantrum on his part ensued, and he brought along a friend to help intimidate me. Again, door closed.I went online, found a REAL hotel to stay at, and left. I had had enough, and money was never the issue.An hour later I received an email saying my card was “declined” and that I was receiving a refund. Interesting timing. While I appreciate the refund, I also know I deserved the refund. I DID NOT deserve to be harassed, harangued and left searching for somewhere to stay at 10PM on a Friday night. I also did not deserve to be false advertised too.To add insult to injury, they accused me of drinking and smoking in the room.This was a complete lie. As an athlete, I partake in neither. Obviously there was a bit of projection going on, as these people were plainly delusional and hating their lives. Sad.This hotel is obviously dying a slow death.Avoid at all costs.
S L (Savvy Scott): This is a cute "boutique" hotel on a "quiet" street just south of the historic city center (Theatro Degollado). Converted from a former residence with a courtyard, it has an "oasis" like atmosphere and "dated" but huge traditional-sized rooms on several floors around a courtyard (small). However, a) there is no air-conditioning (that is not needed in the high altitude of Guadalajara except during an exceptionally hot spell in summer) which means that every sound echoing from the courtyard is heard. There is free parking, and a cosy breakfast area. The manager at the time I went was a quiet-spoken Englishman, helped by discrete staff. Just blocks away from the historic center and eateries, central Guadalajara is not residential like the prosperous zones of Minerva, or the satellite town of Zapopan - for those seeking more "modern" surroundings.

chris mess: We had an extraordinary situation but it gives an idea that they don’t care at all!We booked a room in advance. When we arrived at 7 pm they informed us that our room is not available because the guests who stayed there before broke the toilet. No other room was available. The lady in the hotel offered us a department 10 min away at a higher price. We didn’t accept to pay more as we didn’t cause the problem. They were NOT WILLING to- give us accommodation at the agreed price- leave us the room with the broken toilet and let is use the shared bathroom of the hotel- let us talk to the manager as he was in a business meeting at 7 pm on a SaturdayThe worst is that they didn’t inform us during the day about the problem which would have given us time to find an alternative.Therefore I believe they just don’t care at all about their guests!

Gus Franco: A great surprise in the center of GDL!I was looking for a place to discover the center of the pearl of Guadalajara and Alarije was a surprise because of the details of the staff and the attention. They made me many suggestions that I take to discover the center of Guadalajara like a local, the very comfortable rooms and a style of a mansion that makes you feel that it is your home, without a doubt I would repeat my experience with them, thank you very much!

Brad Downs: I don't normally leave reviews but my experience was so bad I want to warn others. I paid for 2 nights but checked out after 1 (September 2021).The hotel looks nothing like the pictures. There's no common eating area or lobby for guests. It's in disrepair. The wall with flowing water shown in photo is broken. The entrance to the street is an orange metal door like a private residence would have. You have to ring a bell for someone to open because the card reader is broken.My room (2nd flloor) was worse. There is no air conditioning, only a weak ceiling fan. The TV is tiny. Room is dark; some of lamp bulbs burnt out. The doors to the rooms are old wood doors made for interior rooms. They block no noise and have cracks someone could peer through. I could hear the staff clearly as they conducted a meeting on speaker phone in the central patio area until after 10pm when I went down to complain. Shower water was barely warm enough with only the hot turned on. The door to the shower was missing.I would never stay there again even if it was free, let alone for $899 a night.

PROMETEO: Very good place to stay for a few days, breakfast is good, the pool is always warm, good location. The only serious thing is that the parking lot is very small and most of the time it will have to be left at the valet, although everyone is very friendly and they are hotel staff, so I don't see any problems with that.

Glenn Murray: I was here on a work related visit during June of 2020 at the peak of lockdowns. The motel is nice and clean with friendly staff, situated in the block of the Plaza Del Sol shopping mall within easy walking distance to all types of shopping & grocery stores. Motel staff were helpful and very friendly. Breakfast menu was excellent and would cook many items on demand such as omelets. Enjoyed my stay here and would stay again.

maria lopez: After a short stay here, I do not recommend anyone trust staying here. My family had to complain over and over to get issues with the AC and water resolved and the staff was not able to create a comfortable situation. The manager agreed that we would be refunded for the nights that were pre-paid and has not been cooperating with the third party company or taking calls.
Jesse Romero: I do not recommend a stay here. My family had to leave the hotel early because of inhabitable conditions with one of the rooms. It was 100 degrees with no AC or window to open. The water from the faucet was black and there was no hot water (cold showers were not an option). After asking several times, they finally sent in maintenance. This still didn’t solve the issue so they finally moved my family to a different room with the same issues. After having to complain over and over we decided to leave and cut our pre-paid trip short. We only stayed 2 of the 5 nights that we paid for. The manager of the hotel tried to move us to a third room but we were not interested. She looked me in my face and said she understood why we were leaving and would make sure we were refunded for the nights that we were not going to stay. This was already 8 days ago from when I am writing this review and they are not cooperating to refund our money for nights that we did not stay there. I call and get no answer or told that there’s no manager available. Save yourself the headache and do not stay here.

Roberto Vargas: Great discovery on my visit to Guadalajara and the only reason why I don't give it 5 stars is that this boutique hotel just needs to be exclusive for adults and it would be perfect, one detail I had was that I requested a presidential room and although it did have a huge jacuzzi I think it lacked privacy since it did not have curtains and it overlooked the pool right where everyone passes and the only thing that covered it was a blind that made almost a total blackout in the room. But other than that, the stay is delicious, the pool is wide and quite large, and you have all the amenities in your room.

Veanette Hanson: My husband and I stayed here for our couple's getaway. We absolutely loved the property. The pool was beautiful and the staff was so friendly. Everyone made us feel extremely welcome. The rooms were gorgeous but it did look like some of the furniture needed a little more upkeep. The hotel is also not centrally located so we did have to Uber almost everywhere we went. If you plan on spending a lot of time at the hotel and relaxing, I highly recommend. Also, the food was delicious but it was pricey. My husband and I found a great hot dog stand nearby (Hot dogs Don Moy) to give us a break from the hotel dinners.
